Recap
At the end of January I was at THAT Conference Texas edition. We attended some great talks and met some very cool people. Here are a few thoughts as I ease back into normal life.
Family makes all the difference. It kept the conference grounded in reality. Conferences usually have some sort of late night hangout but with kids running around having their own sessions, it grounded folks to really take advantage of the networking and the topics being presented. It also allowed people to understand each other for who they are rather than just “software developers”. There were deeper conversations being had about our industry, how it affects our families, and how they as a unit move through the world.
This leads into my next takeaway: the services that really sparkled were in the Threat Intel category. Most attendees were curious about what our Threat Intel Services included and how they could use them. Maybe having little kids running around had more of an impact than originally thought. People want to keep their families safe and as we move forward, that includes safety online.
Talks
Keith and I both gave talks during the conference. Keith’s talk was on day one and on the topic of Cloud Design Patterns. It was really well received and had quite a few attendees. Even after his talk and power poses, folks came by our table to sign up, keep on chatting, or get a few more of our USB protectors, webcam covers, and stickers.
My talk was on the “Culture shift to Secure by Design” and the last day of the conference. The time slot was after lunch and absolutely stacked with top tier talks. I even wanted to go to quite a few of the talks going on while my talk was going on. People did stop by and we got way deeper into security than the slides I had prepared for the talk. Sincerely, sometimes the folks that need to hear something will find you out.
